A few Christmas "Songs from my Closet"
Deliverance
I
want Christmas
to
feel more
than
just wanting
to
check off a list.
Sounds
all around
shout
and clamor
with
marketing
jingles
and bells.
Fight
night!
Who
will take the
place
in my home
and
under the tree-
To
wait in my heart
wishes
and dreams?
For
everyone must
open
that “something,”
or
must have,
whatever
it is that
I'll
stuff in the closets
and
dig out again
when
I clean
in
the spring.
Then,
pause to
remember
a feeling.
And
what song
will
I hear
in
that moment?
Commercial
insecurity.
A
caricature cacophony
counterfeit
symphony
of
jingle sells overhead
clashing
against
toys
noise to hear
their
own ringing.
Shopping
carts CLANG!
knocking
at strangers.
Courtesy
pays homage
to
greed,
giving
way,
for
Gratitude’s funeral,
(better
known as Black Friday).
I
want to go back.
Sing
carols,
Bring
gifts
turn
our hearts
toward
each other.
Remember
the feelings?
Before
wanting and
shopping,
schedules,
and
weary well-doing?
Christmas
is wishing,
working
goodwill
a
new light appearing
Hope
for good things
making
them happen
(but
not just for friends).
I
will show love,
for
even my“enemy.”
At-one,
together,
we
chase away darkness.
Believe
in Deliverance,
welcome
birth
of
the smallest.
For
in agony,
empathy
triumphs
divinity
shines
Hope
gives humanity dignity.
What
better gift,
can
I give
or
song can I sing?
We've
heard it before,
and
we'll hear it again.
Peace
on earth,
goodwill
toward men.
